What
Greater Treasure? Living Water in the Desert -
Keynote Address by Thomas Lowe Fleischner, Ph.D.
7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Global Resource Center Auditorium,
(corner of 12th & Kentucky Streets)
Western New Mexico University, Silver City
In the desert, water appears
when we least expect it and hides when we want it
most. Rain falls but never reaches the ground, and
dry washes abruptly become rivers. One constant
holds true: water enables life. Join passionate
naturalist Tom Fleischner for a vivid discussion
of the role of water in our desert environment and
a reminder that seasonal pulses are critical to
a healthy Gila River.
Dr.
Thomas Fleischner is a conservation biologist,
author and educator who has worked in the environmental
field for more than 25 years. Dr. Fleischner is
a professor of environmental studies at Prescott
College in Arizona, where he was key in the development
of the school's degree track in Conservation Biology.
He is the author of "Desert Wetlands"
and has published numerous articles in journals
such as Conservation Biology, Wild Earth, and

Tables staffed by Gila Native Plant Society and
Southwestern New Mexico Audubon Society board members
will offer information about their organizations,
